Slack

The Slack integration brings the Rivets assistant into your Slack workspace. Mention Rivets in a channel or send it a direct message, and it answers in the thread. It can start tasks, report on what is running, and check on pull requests and Linear issues for you.

Install Rivets in Slack

Only organization owners can install the app.

Open Settings › Integrations › Slack.
Choose Add to Slack and approve the installation in Slack.

Settings then shows the connected Slack workspace, who installed it, and when. A Slack workspace can be connected to only one Rivets organization.

Rivets asks Slack for the minimum it needs: it reads messages that mention it and direct messages sent to it. It does not read other channel traffic.

Link your account

Rivets does not answer people it cannot identify. The first time you message it, it replies with a one-time link instead of an answer.

Open the link while signed in to Rivets.
Rivets links your Slack user to your Rivets account.
Your original message is kept and answered in the thread moments later. You do not need to send it again.

Settings › Integrations › Slack shows whether you are linked. Rivets then acts as you for your Slack messages, with your repository access.

Verified-email auto-linking is available per installation for workspaces that want to skip the link step.

Talk to Rivets

In a channel: mention @Rivets with your request.
In a direct message: message the app.

Each Slack thread is one assistant conversation. Replies in the thread continue the same conversation, so Rivets remembers what you asked earlier in it.

Rivets posts a placeholder reply as soon as it accepts your message, then updates that message in place: a short status line at most every 5 seconds while it works, then the answer.

What it can do

The Slack assistant is the same assistant as in the apps. It can:

Create tasks in your repositories and report back when they finish.
Tell you what is running right now.
Summarize your open Linear issues, if Linear is connected.
Check on your pull requests.

The assistant needs an online worker with a signed-in agent. See Assistant.

Uninstall

Owners can choose Uninstall in Settings › Integrations › Slack. Rivets is removed from the Slack workspace, open threads stop being answered, and everyone has to link their account again after a reinstall.

Microsoft Teams

Microsoft Teams support is next. It is not available yet.
